TO APPLY FOR FLORIDA HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

Florida Statute 196.031 specifies that every person who has legal title or beneficial title to real property in the State of Florida and makes the same their permanent residence in good faith, is eligible for this exemption entitlement.

Take a COPY OF YOUR DEED and the following items, which must be obtained prior to January 1^st of the qualifying year, for each person named as Grantee on the deed AND each person residing at the property as of January 1^st of the year for which you are applying:

Florida Drivers License

Florida Voter's Registration Card OR Declaration of Domicile

Florida Car Registration OR must sign Affidavit that you do not own a car in any state

Social Security Number

Please note that resident aliens must present their Permanent Alien Card along with a Declaration of Domicile.

You must appear in person (unless you are a married couple, in which case only one spouse need appear in person–but that person must bring all the information for the spouse) and apply prior to March 1^st of the first year you wish to be eligible for the homestead exemption.
